This product is a calcium salt of L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, a folate vitamin (vitamin B9, folate), which is a coenzyme form of folate. L-5-methyl-tetrahydrofolic acid calcium is a naturally occurring halogenic methyl derivative form of folic acid. 5-mthf is also known as L-methylfolic acid. It is the most biologically active and functional form of folic acid and is easier to absorb than ordinary folic acid.

Deficiency of folic acid reduces cells' ability to synhesize and repair DNA, and folic acid supplementation may be a more favorable approach to increase folic acid to reduce homocysteine levels and support normal cell proliferation, vascular endothelial function. Cardiovascular disease, nervous system function, and especially 5-MTHF supplementation during pregnancy have been shown to reduce the risk of neural tube malformations and recurrence.
